BitLocker’s decryption not working [EXPERT FIX]

Word on the Internet is that BitLocker (the encryption system on the new Windows 8 operating system) is not working as well as it should be. So, when you start BitLocker, you get a message that says that your computer is not encrypted… but here is the kicker, the screen says that the encryption has failed, but the option to “Run a recovery password” is still there. If you do that, the encryption works, but it’s not the same BitLocker you know and love, it’s a whole new encryption system that you have never even heard about. Is it any good? Yes, it works, it’s not broken, but it’s not BitLocker.

When it comes to confidentiality and security, the Windows BitLocker encryption technology is pretty awesome. It essentially locks away a user’s data so that if someone tries to access it, they will get a message saying they are not allowed to do that. If you are the owner of the device, you will get the chance to unlock the data and access it. You can also turn off encryption on your device if you want to, but you can’t unlock it without the correct password.

BitLocker is a free built-in encryption program that comes pre-installed on Windows Pro and above. It helps the user to encrypt the hard drive with a password to protect all the information it contains.

However, some users have reported that they cannot decrypt their hard drives with BitLocker.

BitLocker not working is one of the most common problems among Windows users, as we have seen in the Microsoft community forums.

I accidentally locked and unlocked my external hard drive, but when decryption started, it stopped and did not continue decrypting. So I can’t delete it, use the disk or change the settings. What can I do to get my hard drive working again?

Follow these steps to resolve BitLocker decryption issues in Windows 10.

What to do if BitLocker doesn’t decode?

1. Wait for decryption to complete

Most BitLocker decryption errors are due to decryption being blocked at 60%, 70% or even 99%.

If this is the case, you should wait a while before trying other solutions to solve the problem.

The encryption and decryption process is very complex and may take longer than expected, so please be patient.

It is recommended that you wait a few hours or more before taking steps to fix the problem yourself, or you can download and install a reliable alternative to BitLocker on your PC.

ESET Endpoint encryption

With this easy-to-use application, you can get full remote control over the encryption keys of files on your hard drives and more.

2. Restore BitLocker driver with password

  1. Type cmd in the search box.
  2. Right-click on the command prompt and select Run as administrator.
  3. At the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter: repair-bde F : E: -pw -f In the above command, change F: to the source drive letter (this is the encrypted drive letter) and E: to the output drive letter.

  1. You will now be asked to enter a password for the BitLocker encrypted drive. Enter the password and press the Enter key.
  2. If you see the message Action Required : Run Chkdsk E: /f, then run the Chkdsk program on the proposed drive.
  3. Close the command line after the disk verification utility completes.

This should create a full backup of your encrypted drive on the output disk. You can format the data, put it back on the original disk and re-encode it.

If password recovery fails, you can use the recovery key.

Make sure your computer is not unplugged during the recovery process to avoid power outages, which in turn could damage the hard drive.

3. Updates window

  1. Right-click on Action Center in the taskbar.

  1. Select All Settings and click Update & Security.

  1. Now select Activation and click Go to Microsoft Store.

  1. You can buy the Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise/Education bundle.
  2. Restart your computer.

The versions (editions) of Windows 10 that integrate BitLocker are Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education.

And if you don’t know how to find out which revision is installed on your computer, go to Settings > System > About and scroll down the page. There you can see the exact revision and iteration of Windows 10.
