  • Today at 10 am Pacific time, Microsoft is again planning to release its monthly Patch Tuesday updates.
  • As you already know, Patch Tuesday updates improve the Windows operating system and add new features.
  • Security improvements are probably the most anticipated part of the Patch Tuesday list of updates.
  • Also, don’t forget that Windows 11 is coming out soon and that Microsoft has announced that it will end support for Windows 10 in 2025.

It might interest you to know that Microsoft will be releasing a new set of major updates for 2021 around 10 a.m. today as part of July Patch Tuesday, as it does every second Tuesday of the month.

If you are not familiar with these updates, you should know that they are essentially patches that address all major Windows issues, as well as security enhancements.

Last month, during Patch Tuesday, the technology company released 50 security patches to address some of the serious problems that were being exploited.

What can you expect from this month’s Patch Tuesday updates?

If you follow the Redmond-based technology company’s Patch Tuesday activities closely, you probably remember last month’s release.

Under the pressure of serious security problems, Microsoft has released a large number of patches to fix some of the exploits discovered in the wild.

The zero day vulnerabilities that Microsoft says are being actively exploited will be patched by June 2021 as follows.

  • CVE-2021-33742 : Remote code execution vulnerability in the Windows MSHTML platform, CVSS 7.5
  • CVE-2021-33739 : Increased privilege risk in the Microsoft DWM core library, CVSS 8.4
  • CVE-2021-31199 : Increased privilege flaw in Microsoft’s enhanced cryptographic provider, CVSS 5.2
  • CVE-2021-31201 : Increased privilege flaw in Microsoft’s enhanced cryptographic provider, CVSS 5.2
  • CVE-2021-31955 : Vulnerability in the Windows kernel that releases information, CVSS 5.5
  • CVE-2021-31956 : Windows NTFS elevation of privilege vulnerability, CVSS 7.8

Please note that this month’s Patch Tuesday takes place during the summer holidays, so the number of CVEs may be significantly lower than in previous months.

However, the increase in ransomware attacks and some emerging Windows issues will continue to push Microsoft employees to deploy solutions, albeit on a much smaller scale.

In July 2021, we can really… :

  • Besides the usual supported operating systems extensive security updates for Windows 7 and Server 2008/2008 R2 will be released as usual.
  • In addition, Internet Explorer updates are expected this month. The browser seems to be getting more attention from Microsoft lately.
  • Updates to SQL Server or the .NET framework have not been released for a few months, so stay tuned.
  • Adobe has already released a preliminary notification regarding APSB2151 for Acrobat and Reader, so be prepared for this version to be released on Patch Tuesday as well.

We’re all curious to see what updates and security patches Microsoft will roll out in Patch Tuesday in July 2021.

As we all know, there are still a few issues that the tech giant has delayed for one reason or another, and we might see those fixes this month.

The amount of software Microsoft will release could also be affected by the fact that the company is currently working hard to improve Windows 11.

Windows Insiders are currently testing the second version of the upcoming operating system, 22000.65.

If you’ve never heard of Windows 11, you’ll probably be interested to know that it will replace Windows 10 starting in 2025, so you’ll also want to know the differences between the two.

  • This build includes all the improvements of Windows 10, version 2004.
  • No other problems have been documented for this version.

Known issues

  • If you use the Microsoft Japanese Input Method Editor (IME) to enter kanji characters in an application that automatically accepts Furigana characters, you may receive incorrect Furigana characters. You may need to enter the Furigana characters manually.

The applications concerned use the ImmGetCompositionString() function.

  • On devices with a Windows installation created from custom standalone media or a custom ISO image, this update may remove Microsoft Edge Legacy, but it is not automatically replaced with the new Microsoft Edge. This issue only occurs if you create custom standalone media or ISO images by inserting this update into an image without first installing the standalone service stack update (SSU) released on 29. March 2021 or later.

Devices that connect directly to Windows Update to receive updates are not affected. This also applies to devices using Windows Update for Business. Any device connected to Windows Update should always receive the latest SSU and the latest Cumulative Update Unit (LCU) without requiring any additional action.
