New WearOS Google/Samsung collaboration might debut this month?

Google’s latest wearables, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL , are now out and available in the UK. That’s not all, though: it seems that Google and Samsung are about to unveil a new wearable that combines the hardware and software of both companies, according to a new report by ETNews. What we’re looking at here is a Google-designed wearable that is going to be made by Samsung.

Google has been working on a new version of its Wear OS software for a while now, and while we don’t have any details about the upcoming software, we do have new information about the upcoming hardware. According to multiple sources, the new device will be a smartwatch that is supposedly based on the Tizen operating system. It also appears that the device will have a similar design to the LG Watch Sport, although it’s unclear how much stock Google will put in the design.

WearOS is Google’s alternative operating system for Android phones, and it’s a superb replacement for the clumsier, more fragmented Android of old. It’s also Google’s first foray into wearables, and its arrival on Samsung’s Galaxy S series of phones is a big, bold experiment for both manufacturers.

Samsung has a virtual presence at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). The first day, 28. In June, the company will host its own Galaxy Experience event. Samsung is expected to talk about its existing devices and Galaxy ecosystem during a keynote, as well as new watches. Announced at Google I/O 2021 in May, Google and Samsung have teamed up to merge Wear OS and Samsung’s Tizen into one platform. Few details have been announced so far, so we hope to find out much more about the new software at this event. Here’s what the official description on the MWC site says about the event: The Galaxy ecosystem of connected devices, services and partnerships offers people choice, freedom and opportunity. We are reinventing the smartwatch and creating new opportunities for developers and consumers. And we increase security by giving people the protection they need in an open and connected world. It’s not much, but it gives us a good idea of what to expect at the event later this month. We can only hope that at some point in the future, we’ll get closer to a powerful and truly useful WearOS-based smartwatch. We Android lovers are eagerly awaiting the debut of a new piece of software that can compete with the Apple Watch. Anyway, stay tuned, we’ll let you know in a few weeks after the event.
